Scope and Contents
Ceremonial shovel – Yingling gymnasium painted on blade. Used for the ground breaking for Yingling Gymnasium in 1889. A gift of Anna Yingling, class of 1871, and designed by Gott ; renovated in 1904 and became Yingling Hall of Science; observatory placed at top in 1912; razed in 1914 to make room for Lewis Recitation Hall; materials from the building were used to make another gymnasium later used for R.O.T.C.; razed completely in 1959.
