Biographical / Historical

The Reifsnider Mansion, also known as “Terrace Hill,” was built in 1873 at the intersection of W Main Street and Uniontown Road in Westminster, Maryland. John L. Reifsnider and family owned the house until 1922 when Western Maryland College purchased the property for $15,000. The house served as “The College Inn” for many years before housing the College Admissions department. The building is currently known as “Carroll Hall” on campus.

In 1961, WMC purchased additional land from the Reifsnider family just beyond Carroll Hall. In 1968, the College bought a second Reifsnider house on W Main Street for $30,000. It was later renovated and reopened as Harrison Alumni House.
