Scope and Contents

This collection contains thirty-nine English and American mystery and detective novels published during the mid-20th century. Included in it are works by authors such as John Dickson Carr, Erle Stanley Gardner, Agatha Christie, Stuart Palmer, Miles Burton, Margaret Millar, and Phoebe Atwood Taylor.

Biographical / Historical

The MacCornack Mystery Novel Collection was donated to Hoover Library in 1998 by Mr. and Mrs. James MacCornack. The original donation consisted of nearly 800 volumes of English and American detective fiction. Several of the rare editions, including a handful of first editions, from authors such as John Dickson Carr, Agatha Christie, Stuart Palmer, and others were separated from the original donation and placed in special collections due to their value.
