Biographical / Historical
Beta Beta Beta, also known as Tri-Beta, is a national honor society for students that dedicates itself to biology and its pursuits. It was founded in 1922 and has had more than 300,000 people accepted into the organization among its 650+ chapters.
Western Maryland College's Alpha Mu Chapter of Tri-Beta was chartered in 1932. Members of the organization, called Tri-Betans, in the present day at McDaniel College are still very active as it nears its 100 year charter day in 2032. In previous years, the chapter would meet monthly to discuss the ways to further each other's scientific research as well as to visit museums and listen to guest speakers.
The Alpha Mu chapter also continues to fund the research efforts of its members through scholarships like the Milton Hendrickson Scholarship which is dedicated to Milton Hendrickson, a major in the Air Force as well as a Tri-Betan. His death during World War II was a shock to the organization who continue to honor his heroism as well as his love and dedication to science.
