Biographical / Historical

The Argonaut Honor Society was founded in 1935 under Dr. Berthwolf. It is the original honor society of Western Maryland College. Originally, the society's 'Fellows'were those who graduated summa cum laude or cum laude. Its on campus activities were carried out by associate members who were candidates for membership with a B average or higher in all courses. Their on-campus activities included annual winter banquets.

After the chartering of the Delta of Maryland Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa on May 1, 1980, the Argonauts was disbanded as an honor society. Although disbanded, the Argonauts live on as an academic award presented to the senior with the highest grade point average.
